A Miracle In A Box

od is the only one who can perform true miracles! In the New Testament, there are many recorded miracles, but those involved depended completely on the power of God. Since God’s word has been confirmed by these recorded miracles, there is not a need for Him to repeat them. Therefore, as was foretold by Paul, they have ceased (1 Corinthians 13:8-12). However, you can be assured that the miracles that God performed when He created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1) reach all the way down to this present age.

The power of God is seen in multiplied thousands of ways, from the microscopic to the largest. This fact should lead us to ask, “How can intelligent people see His creation and claim that all just happened?” This author fully agrees with David when he wrote: “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God’ ” (Psalms 14:1).

One spring, I saw a miracle from God’s creation that was beyond imagination. After building a bird box in my back yard, a couple of titmice birds decided to move in and set up housekeeping. They made the same kind of nest that these kinds of birds have been making over the centuries. After the mating process, the female placed three eggs in the nest that was capable of hatching three tiny birds with the same features and characteristics of both parents.

Day by day she kept these eggs just the right temperature so that all three eggs hatched. Then came the pattern of growth that only God could design. Both parents flew almost nonstop flights to deposit just the right food for this particular type of bird. They knew exactly where to go and how to obtain the food. Thus, day-by-day, the food received by these baby birds caused them to grow in size and to become feathered just like their parents. In creation, God had already chosen their size, colors, shapes and habits.

In fact, when it came time for these baby birds to fledge, other than being some smaller in size, it was impossible for me to distinguish them from their parents. Even the calls and sounds that they made were identical to their parents. Can you imagine someone believing that all of this came from a large explosion or a big bang?

Fortunately, on Saturday morning when it was time for the birds to leave their nest, I was at home and saw all three leave the box. This was their big day! The first one stuck his head out of the entrance hole, as he surveyed in all directions. But when he saw me, the little head instantly popped back in! But after a while, it decided that I was not a big bad enemy.

The parents were so excited and were making every possible effort to get this first one into the air. However, this didn’t seem like (to the little feathered creature) the time to be careless.  Thus, for a long time the tiny bird would only pretend that it was going to fly.

Finally, though, all three birds built up their courage to make their first flight. As I watched, the thought occurred to me that they already knew how to fly. Not only did they fly to the nearest limb, but also immediately, they flew from limb to limb. God’s miracle from creation was complete. —BBBristow

David wrote these words about birds: “Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young” (Psalms 84:3). Truly I saw a miracle in a box! —BBBristow
